During the Service

Acolytes
Acolyting is a service role in the church. Acolytes are responsible for lighting and extinguishing the candles in the chancel area of the church for worship services, and sometimes for carrying the processional cross to the altar during festival services.

All young people of the congregation, from the 4th grade and up, are eligible to participate.

Altar Guild
The Altar Guild has the responsibility of maintaining the altar so that it is attractive and presentable for each worship service.

Duties include: Preparation for Holy Communion, caring for the communion ware, maintaining the altar linens, providing decorations for special seasons of the church year.

Membership in the Altar Guild is open to ALL ladies of the church. Meetings are  held  as announced.

Greeters
To greet is to speak with expressions of friendliness and respect. Christians share their faith life by providing a comfortable and friendly environment.

What Does a Greeter Do? Greeters should be enthusiastic and filled with the love of Christ. This will prepare the worshipers for the Pastor's Gospel message.

Who Should Greet? Everyone who is a member of St. Paul's can be a greeter. We all have a responsibility to become active members of our church.

What Are The Greeter's Responsibilities? Greeters should arrive at least 15 minutes before the service...put on a Greeter pin, and a friendly smile. Stand at one of the entrances and extend the hand of fellowship to everyone who enters. This is one of the easiest jobs and the benefits are great!

If you are interested in becoming a Greeter and would like to know more about this ministry, please contact the church office any weekday morning.

Ushers
The ushers volunteer their time before, during, and after services, assisting with seating and dismissal, distributing the service bulletins, directing communicants to the communion table, greeting members and visitors and providing directions and guidance throughout the worship service.

The usher staff is open to all confirmed men and women of St. Paul's congregation.

Lay Readers
In late 1997, the Worship Committee, with the approval of the Board of Elders, initiated a Lay Reader program at St. Paul's.

The purpose of this program is to involve lay people in the liturgy and give them an opportunity to witness their faith in the Lord Jesus.

Originally a Lay Reader read the Old and New Testament readings once a month, on the fourth Sunday. The Pastor always reads the Gospel lesson for the day.  However, this program was so successful that we now have a Lay Reader read the Old and New Testament  Scriptures at every  service..

As of today, twenty-seven volunteers are on the Lay Reader roster.

Being a Lay Reader is viewed as a privilege!
